Pictures, party
Nov. 16th, 2003 09:26 amWent out yesterday to use my newly acquired MBTA photography permit. I took a few pictures around South Station, got a shot of the Silver Lie platform under construction at the T stop there, and experimented with a couple of long-exposure shots of arriving trains. Then I went to Ashmont, got carded by the train driver, and watched the trolleys go by.
After this, since I was conveniently at a T stop, I went to
jadia's party (and others who probably don't want to be embarrassed). Like other parties these days, it seemed to have the "lots of people I don't know" phenomenon. The group of us that played games went off and did that; we played Res Publica again, and while I still lost and it was still a brutal game, I wasn't the one holding the last cards someone else needed to move along.
Then I wound up doing some driving. First I concluded that there were no native games at the party, and a vague (not generally unjustified) expectation that I'd have some, so I borrowed a car to run home and get things. Then I got to drive the car to FOOOOOOD MAAAAAASTER!!!! to get more drinks. Dinner was ordered, and we sat down to play Citadels. Which is a fun, if confusing game, but it doesn't quite scale up to eight players. Oh well.
Meanwhile the party turned loud. And I was getting tired. And I think I had an abnormal-caffeination headache. And I could only take so much of people yelling "LESBIANS!" in the living room for no good reason. So I crashed, eventually got thrown out of the bed, and got a ride home.

Date: 2003-11-16 06:45 am (UTC)"Silver Lie": not a typo. Actually in somewhat regular use on the ne.transportation newsgroup. Because as part of the Big Dig, the T is required to provide service to Dudley Square equivalent to or better than what the old elevated line provided, and hey, a bus is good enough, right?

Date: 2003-11-16 06:56 pm (UTC)(Driver, seeing me just hanging around: "are you looking for something?" Me: "I'm going to take some pictures." Driver: "you can't do that." Me: "I have a permit." Driver: "You have a permit?" Me: "I have a permit." Driver: "Can I see the permit?" I hand him the permit. He seems vaguely put out that such a thing actually exists, but returns to the task of turning the train around.)

Too bad the party and deruddigoration were in conflict. I had been hoping to stay after the show and help strike (assuming I'd be useful), to help out the exhausted cast and crew, but hadn't counted on how late the show would run. (Starting more than 20 minutes late didn't help.) I also hadn't realized how late the house rewarming party would run.

Date: 2003-11-16 12:15 pm (UTC)I'm sure you would have been useful at strike. (I don't know if I've ever actually observed you at one, but you seem like the sort of person who'd be useful.) Luckily, it ended at a reasonable hour, thanks in large part to the fact that we were leaving some of the large and heavy stuff there for MTG.

Date: 2003-11-16 12:09 pm (UTC)I was surprised by how few people at the party I did not already know, especially since I had never before met 2 of the 4 hosts, and feel like I barely know the 3rd (because she is so quiet). There were large APO and Random contingents, and I haven't exactly been isolated from ET in the past few years.
