Well, first, I think they ask you not to, and if you don't stop doing it, they send the T Police after you. In between yesterday and today I've taken pictures at a half-dozen locations and only been approached once, but the train driver at Ashmont made it sound like a Big Deal.
(Driver, seeing me just hanging around: "are you looking for something?" Me: "I'm going to take some pictures." Driver: "you can't do that." Me: "I have a permit." Driver: "You have a permit?" Me: "I have a permit." Driver: "Can I see the permit?" I hand him the permit. He seems vaguely put out that such a thing actually exists, but returns to the task of turning the train around.)
