Institutional memory

The various conversations on
mitmit are vaguely depressing. I really did like the old system where you got a temp room but were actively told "you will be living in this room for less than one week", and got a choice of where to live, and that could be anywhere, even with the eeeeevil people on the other side of the river. And I was really really excited about Athena before I got here. (And I still think it's technically the best system of its sort I've ever seen, but that's different.)
In its own way, it's good that the crust isn't complaining to incoming frosh about freshmen-on-campus or residence-based advising or mandatory dining or any of the other stupid things MIT has done in the past several years. But dammit, I like the way the world was eight years ago...
