Toronto is far, let's go shopping
Sep. 3rd, 2003 01:10 pmFor reasons unclear to even me, I was looking at ways of getting to Toronto this morning. Amtrak has a train (the Maple Leaf) that goes from New York Penn Station to Toronto; it takes about 12 hours, which at first glance sounds reasonable. Looking more carefully, though, this involves an hour and a half to cross the border, and then the train from Niagara Falls to Toronto seems to average around 50 km/h. Plus I'd need to *get* to New York to leave Penn Station at 7:15 AM, which mostly involves leaving the day before (or taking an overnight train and getting to NYP at 3 AM, ick). So for a day's travel time each way and around US$210 on Amtrak (NYP-TWO is CA$260, about US$188, on VIA for presumably the same train) I could get to Toronto.
Or, as others were quick to point out online, I can fly American Eagle direct for US$209 round-trip in two hours plus customs on each end. This sounds like much less of a hassle, somehow. If I ever figure out when I want to go. Or why.
