Impatience

I decided to put my convalescent old laptop (arborway) out of its misery about a week ago, and ordered a new IBM T40 (to be named everett). This has been an exercise in impatience for me; I really do need 16 out of 16 bits, not just 15, so arborway is a little dead to use in the meantime. (Having to run mke2fs /home as the sanest recovery course was a little distressing too.) So I have no working laptop at the moment. After I decided what I wanted, it took about a week for the order to actually go in. Then it took four or five days in shipping. Today it was supposed to have actually arrived, and Airborne's tracking information says it was delivered, but there's no sign of it here or in the mail room downstairs. My best guess right now is that it got delivered to Central Mail Services, and I'm doomed to wait another week for it to dribble its way across campus. Want toy! Want it now!
