Party, cheesecake, fish
Oct. 13th, 2003 10:39 amMy apartment finally got around to having a housewarming party on Saturday (handily conflicting with
avacon's party and the ET retreat, but it's a date). Lots of people were here, though a huge fraction were from the greater Tech Squares universe. Somehow in spite of the invitation saying "no games at all, nope", the entire party degenerated into games; I don't get it. :-) A Trivial Pursuit game broke out in the dining room, which seemed to be somewhat popular; not my thing, but somehow better in my mind than Apples to Apples, and it did have lots of spectators. I played Acquire, then Clans, which was interesting if a bit abstract for me, and then I must have played something else, but then we played Eurorails (lost by a turn and a half) and Die Siedler von Catan: Staedte und Ritter, where I got hosed the first time the pirates landed, managed to come back and threaten to take the lead with about 10 victory points, but then failed to cash in my wheat fields for valuable cash prizes.
Then yesterday we had a smallish mob to the Cheesecake Factory for brunch. I find their Sunday brunch mostly acceptable, better than their other food at least. Not much exciting actually happened there. (For the record, I don't actually like cheesecake.) Dinner was a huge birthday mob to Naked Fish. Everything was very good; if you've never been there before, definitely get the scallop appetizer. I had the Orange and Balsamic Glazed Salmon, which was also very yummy. But dish plus appetizers plus a share of two pitchers of sangria plus paying for the birthday dinner got a little pricey. "That happens."
