Look at this map of San Diego County (the Google Maps/KPBS map). How much of the county is on fire?
Look at this map of San Diego County (from the county proper). How much of the county is on fire?
The county maps a day or two started marking the burned areas in yellow, and adding red dots for areas known to actually be on fire in the past 24 hours. Suddenly the situation looked...not necessarily rosier, but it became very visible that there was a "front" to the fire that was on the north and east ends of the fire area. So even though the KPBS map still shows the entire burned area in red, the fire is clearly moving away from civilization at this point rather than towards it.
