California Redux
Dec. 30th, 2005 09:39 pmDid not reveal the existence of livejournal to parents, but consequently posted less than I otherwise might have. Did make it to Fry's, which utterly lacked in affordable microcontroller programmers. Data set for GPS runs around $100, which is annoying; it's worth a pass to see if free-as-in-beer software plus TIGER data gets something acceptable. We did spend a day in Carmel and got good Mexican food in San Jose, which was nice if wasted time (my parents thought Carmel had gone downhill; the last time I was there I was a teenager so I don't have much to contrast with).
I also got to spend a day with Mrs. Friend From Fourth Grade. Nobody from high school keeps in touch with anybody else, alas, and so it's not obviously known whether there will be a reunion. (Maybe somebody should plan a "people we actually care about" reunion.) We played 1825; she thinks we're getting too old to play long games (her greater social group contains a never-played copy of 1856).
After being initially cool to it, my mom surprisingly got into San Juan, and I played 1825 with my dad and helped him install Linux (again) on an old machine. Much tea was consumed. American loves me and sometimes it pays to show up to the airport early. Um, that's all, I think.
