No train for you!
Say you lived in Rhode Island, and for some reason wanted to come in to Boston. Weekdays, MBTA commuter rail runs to Providence, but on weekends and holidays the last stop is South Attleboro, just barely inside Massachusetts. But fear not -- RIPTA, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, has a statewide bus system, and included in this is the #35 bus from downtown Providence to Newport Ave. and Mill St. in Pawtucket, blocks from the state line and the commuter rail.
Only problem is, the bus runs every 90 minutes, and consistently arrives 5-30 minutes after the train for Boston leaves. The other direction is a little more of a mixed bag; the 7:40 AM train can catch the 7:49 bus if it's on time, but the 11:00 train misses the 10:49 bus every time. You'd think the Rhode Island people would plan this a little better...
