I got to drive Andy's sexy car today. (Which turned out to be a mistake -- I needed to pick up two people, not just one, but it worked out okay.) And I didn't even have to mud-wrestle anyone. I'm reminded that, in case I need to have a mid-life crisis, it is possible to blow gratuitous sums of cash on a fun car.
Somehow the Barenaked Ladies seem to have been an incredibly popular band, listening to the radio. I never quite understood this; I've never really found their music that catchy, and certainly not particularly deep (not that popular music is every really about musical talent, with the possible exception of the Dave Matthews Band, but hey). Listening to the radio in the van today, I realized, though: lyrics with no music is just poetry. And I just don't get a whole lot out of poetry. (I like the Simon and Garfunkel rendition of "Richard Corey" a fair bit, even though the equivalent poem does nothing for me, for example.) But since I consider BNL's music kind of worthless, that leaves the lyrics; "Old Apartment" tells kind of an interesting story after the 20th time you've heard it and can figure out what they're saying, but that on its own doesn't make a good song (or a good band) for me.
