I've been a bit baffled as to why the Red Line headways have been so badly affected by the derailment. I understand they're only running the Ashmont branch, but shouldn't they be able to operate with the usual headway given that fact? It seems like they're operating at way less than 2x the usual headway, which doesn't make sense on the face of it. Are they running single-track through JFK or something?
